The Love Poems of John Donne, Nonesuch Press, 1923

No. 596/1250 copies. This edition of Donne’s Love Poems was the first publication of the influential private press of Francis Meynell, the Nonesuch Press. The Press is well known and loved for its numerous publications throughout its operation. This being the first of Meynell’s productions under the Nonesuch Press, it is desirable and important in the history of the book, and that of the private press.
 
Bound in original quarter vellum with red pattern designed paper (pleasingly matching the endpapers, creating a seamless effect), this is a Very Good copy. Cover and spine are very slightly soiled and sunned in places, with rubbing to top edge and corners. Contents is clean and bright. Frontispiece of John Donne protected by original tissue guard. Printed on Vidalon handmade paper, with 17th Century Fell type, this is a wonderfully tactile first production from the Nonesuch Press.
